Convert iTunes M4P/M4B/M4A to MP3

Some of the music files in my iTunes library are M4P, while others are M4A. Why is that? The M4A files will play on my new phone but the M4P will not.

All songs now for sale in the iTunes Store are iTunes Plus. If you purchase and download a song, you will find it come with .m4a extension. M4A songs are DRM-free and you can play them on other M4A compatible devices.

You can download songs, albums, or playlists to your device so that you can listen to them when you're not connected to the Internet. However, after downloading, you will find the songs are in DRM-protected .m4p format which means you can only play them with iTunes/Music app on authorized devices. You cannot transfer them to your iPod Shuffle, iPod nano or other MP3 players.

Audiobooks you purchased from iTunes Store feature .m4p or .m4b extension, which is also DRM protected.
